- "Solomon erected several other buildings as well [in addition to the Temple], probably locating them near the Temple in the new part of the city now being added. One of them was his personal residence, the palace. It must have been an elegant structure, for it took thirteen years to build, even six years longer than the Temple. Another was the 'House of the Forest of Lebanon,' perhaps so named because it was supported by rows of cedar pillars. It was used at least in part to store arms (1 Kings 10:16-17; Isa. 22:8). A third was the 'Hall of the Pillars,' perhaps a sort of splendid passage-building, lined with pillars, between the 'House of the Forest of Lebanon' and a fourth building, the 'Hall of Judgment.' In this last structure, Solomon sat for judgment on a six-step throne of ivory overlaid with gold (1 Kings 10:18-20). Next came Solomon's own palace, probably joined to the 'Hall of Judgment' for ease of access. Last was the special house made for Solomon's honored wife, the daughter of Pharaoh." (Leon J. Wood, A SURVEY OF ISRAEL'S HISTORY, © 1970 Zondervan, p. 297)
